The Physics Department at Fatih University was founded in 1996 with the aim to be the best among the Physics Departments in Turkey. In the establishment of the university, the department was furnished with the most advanced teaching and research laboratories so that both undergraduate and graduate students can find opportunity to do their best. Our labs include: Electricity, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Waves & Optics, and Modern Physics laboratories. Work on the establishments of the new teaching and research labs for solid-state physics, atomic & molecular physics, fiber optics, laser applications, and electronics is in progress. Also, we are working on the construction of the one of the largest supercomputer sites in Turkey. The idea behind this is to support both teaching and research with the supercomputer power. Therefore, as now the department is among the best in Turkey, our ultimate goal is to extend our teaching and research facilities as much as possible to reach the international levels.
Our mission |
Our vision |
|---|---|
To become an internationally recognized department where qualities of both research and teaching are at the level of those of the most prestigious universities/institutions in the world. |
To keep the quality of faculty members, students, and teaching/research facilities as high as possible, while establishing strong bonds with the scientific community in the world. |
The Department's undergraduate program is intended not only to give students a broad and strong theoretical background that prepares them for graduate level work, but also to provide students with some practical knowledge in electronics, computers, and in basics experimental techniques. Such practical training is to prepare students for jobs in industry. Revising the curriculum, as was done recently, was a major step towards the fulfillment of two goals mentioned above. Also, we are very aware of the fact that keeping the ratio of students to academic personnel as low as possible is a must for a high quality education.
Our undergraduates have three main options after they graduate; (1) to get jobs in industry such as those related with technical support in government and industry (2) to teach in private and government schools (3) to go to graduate level programs both in Turkey and abroad. Since the language of instruction at Fatih University is English, graduates are especially well equipped to work at scientific institutions and organizations at those abroad.
