SPECTROSCOPY RESEARCH GROUP

The research in our group is two-fold: (1) is the experimental spectroscopy that includes Optical, IR, ESR, Auger, EELS, Low Temperature Photoreflection and Conductivity Properties of semiconductors materials, and (2) is the theoretical/computational studies of spectroscopic properties of small to medium size molecules akin to semiconductor materials.

EXPERIMENTAL WORK

Experimental research in the group is directed by Professor Kumru whose focus is the spectroscopy of amorphous Silicon and Germanium materials, especially a-Ge, a-G:H, a-Ge1-xCx:H prepared by R. F. Sputtering4 [M. Kumru,Thin Solid Films, 198(1991)75–84]. The crystalline semiconductors are also investigated, such as the low temperature photoreflectance of MBE grown GaSb samples.

Preparation, Structural Characterization, Magnetic Properties, and ESR, FT-IR, FT-Raman and Electronic Spectral Studies of the transition metal complexes is another field of interest in our group. [M. Kumru, A. Aypar, Spectrochimica Acta, Vol. 4 7A, No. 12, pp. 1789, 1991]

THEORETICAL WORK

Quantum chemical/mechanical applications (Ab initio & DFT) on the small-to-medium size molecules that are important in semiconductor/optoelectronic applications. These molecules are generally silicon, germanium, and carbon containing molecules. Using highly correlated wave functions such as coupled-cluster and multi-reference methods, accurate zeroth, first and second order spectroscopic constants are obtained. As examples, see the following papers; (L. Sari et al., Journal of American Chemical Society, Vol. 125, No. 37, pp. 11409 (2003)), (L. Sari et al., Journal of Chemical Physics, Vol. 117, No. 22, pp. 10008 (2002)), and (L. Sari et al., Journal of Chemical Physics, Vol. 119, No. 16, pp. 8266 (2003)).
